Finally we
arrived in SYDNEY!!!
To get an
overview of Sydney we did a free three hour guided tour.
Some shorts
facts we learned on the tour:
- Melbourne and Sydney fought about, who should become the capital of Australia. It was such a long process that at the end Australia decided to build a new city between Sydney and Melbourne, Canberra
- In the old rough days there were certain pubs in Sydney, which occasionally gave "special" guest one free beer after another until they were dead drunk and the only guest left. When the time was right, the barkeeper would press a switch and a trapdoor in the ground would open, leaving the special guest trapped in his state. When he awoke in the morning, he'd find himself on a boat in the middle of the ocean. He had become enslaved for working on that very boat. Of course one can never say how often it actually has happened.
Everybody
knows the Opera of Sydney and finally we saw it with our own eyes! Just an
amazing experience. Of course we saw other sights, like the Harbour Bridge or
the hood “The Rocks”. You can walk all the way by foot and we were really lucky
with the weather! Four days of sunshine! :) A walk through the botanic garden
is also worthwhile. An amazing picture with the skyline of Sydney in the
background! :)
Bondi
Beach
We had nice
weather, but the temperature didn’t invite for a swim. Anyhow we decided to do
a day trip to Australia’s most famous beach, the “Bondi Beach”. A nice beach,
although the wind was very strong and the temperature not very high, the beach
was crowded. We took a short look to the beach and started our 2,5 hour walk
along the coast to Coogee Beach.
