Auch die Silvester Stimmung blieb irgendwie weg.. Sonne, 25 Grad, Strand und Meer… hach, das Leben kann aber auch gemein sein! :D Und dann wurde auch noch das Feuerwerk in Wellington auf Grund von Wind abgesagt.. :( Reingefeiert haben wir trotzdem.

19,7 km wandern. Leider hatten wir nicht das beste Wetter – Regen und Nebel, aber gelohnt hat es sich trotzdem!! :)

Christmas in Taupo - english version

Christmas

Christmas Time we spent in Taupo. Unfortunately we wouldn't have any christmas feeling whatsoever. How could we with sun and 20 degrees?! :)

On the December 24th we induldeg ourselfs with a delicous meal: Steak, mashed potatos and beans. As desert we had Chocolate Fondue.

Since Christmas is celebrated in New Zealand on the 25th, the hostel threw a big BBQ for lunch. The whole hostel joined in. The guests made salads and the hostel provided Meat and Burgers for everybody. What a feast! It was nice celebrating Christmas with so many different nationalities. We put the tables together and sat amongst ca. 10 people from Israel – they were fucking hilarious. It's always interessting meeting people from other countries and cultures you don't know much about. I mean everybody has an impression about america, because of their movies, but who knows what's going on in Israel.

For example in Israel everybody has to go to the military service. Girls for two and boys for three years. They also told us, because everybody has to go they grow up much faster than us. They've got numorous funny games like spin the bottle or truth or dare but much harder versions of it. Superfically they seem to be much more relaxed about their conflict with Palastine, even though it's getting really close to them and many have lost family to it. They often would make fun of it and don't understand why other people don't join in. We also learnd some hebrew, but have forgotten it already. Hahahaha.

We did a little trip to the Huka Falls, which are a cascade of Waterfalls.

Mount Tauhara and Lake Taupo

Together with Mitchell and Olivia from Canada we went up Mount Tauhaura, from which's top  you have the most amazing view over the region, Taupo and Lake Taupo. The lake, which you can only see partially in the background, is a craterlake of a vulcano that collapsed 26.500 years ago – wicked.

The last eruption 1800 years ago was so big that the Chinese and the romans saw a colored Sky. Imagine that!

Die Weihnachtszeit haben wir in Taupo verbracht. Richtiges Weihnachtsgefühl hatten wir beide jedoch nicht, wie auch bei Sonne und über 20 Grad!?! :)

Am 24. Dezember haben wir uns ein leckeres Menü gemacht, Steak, Kartoffelbrei und Bohnen, zum Nachtisch gab es Schokofondue, was die Essenstüte halt so hergegeben hat! :) Den restlichen Abend haben wir dann mit Mitchell und Olivia aus Kanada verbracht.

Da in Neuseeland nur der 25. Dezember gefeiert wird, hat das Hostel ein BBQ für den Mittag organisiert. Das ganze Hostel war dabei. Die Gäste haben Salate gemacht und das Fleisch sowie Burger wurden gestellt. Das war ein riesen Festmahl!! Es war schön Weihnachten mit so vielen Nationalitäten zu feiern. Beim BBQ haben wir alle Tische zusammen geschoben und um uns herum saßen ca. 10 Israelis – die waren echt sauwitzig. Immer wieder Interessant Leute aus anderen Ländern und Kulturen kennenzulernen, von denen man nicht so viel weiß. Wir meinen über Amerika bekommt man viele Eindrücke über das Fernsehen, aber wer weiß schon so genau was in Israel abgeht. 

In Israel muss zum Beispiel jeder zum Militär – Frauen zwei Jahre und Männer drei!! Sie haben uns auch erzählt das deswegen weil jeder geht, sie viel schneller erwachsen werden müssen und sie deshalb unzählige witzige Spiele als Teenager spielen um sich nahe zu kommen, wie Flaschendrehen und Wahl, Wahrheit oder Pflicht, aber sehr viel extremer. Sie gehen auch oberflächlich viel lockerer mit dem Konflikt mit Palästina um, auch wenn es sie zugleich tief bewegt und viele auch schon Familie verloren haben. Sie machen immer Späße und verstehen gar nicht warum andere nicht mitlachen. Wir haben sogar ein bisschen hebräisch gelernt, aber schon wieder vergessen hahahaha.

Huka Falls

Wir haben einen kleinen Ausflug zu den Huka Falls gemacht. Die Huka Falls sind eine Kaskade von Wasserfällen.

Mount Tauhara – Lake Taupo

Zusammen mit Mitchell und Olivia aus Kanada haben wir den Mount Tauhara erklommen. Von der Spitze hat man einen super Ausblick über Taupo und Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo, den man nur zum Teil auf dem Bild im Hintergrund sieht, ist ein Kratersee eines vor rund 26.500 Jahren kollabierten Vulkans – KRASS!!!!

Weiteres Wissenswertes:

• -       40 km lang
• -       28 km breit
• -       Umfang von rund 193 km
• -       Fläche von 622 km²

Als dieser Vulkan das letzte Mal vor ca. 1800 Jahren ausgebrochen ist war die Aschewolke so riesig, dass die Chinesen und die Römer einen gefärbten Himmel beobachtet haben. Das muss man sich mal vorstellen.

Sara decided really fast to buy a tent for herself. She needed it for some reason. Even better, so the three of us didn’t have to sleep in the car! That would have been cosy.  Ok, so we went to the Warehouse and bought everything for our trip. Tent, sleeping bag and a thermal map were found very fast! :)

Forgotten World Highway - Stamp for our passport here were are!

Our first highlight was the Forgotten World Highway. Next 150 km no fuel station and 20 km of gravel road. We decided to go this way because we absolutely wanted to have this stamp in our passports of this republic “Whangamomona“ in the middle of nowhere. Two dollar donation and we got it! And we survived the highway, who would have thought at this name.

Stopover in Taupo at the Hot Water Pools we couldn´t miss. So good, that we arrived there early, because to find a space in the pool is rare! :) But it was worth it, from hot like in the bath till pleasant warm, you got everything.

A big park with 25 different thermal pools. From Devils Home, over Oyster Pool and Sulphur Caves till Devil´s Hole. A breathtaking experience – “fresh” air inclusive.

Playground the 1st.

Apart from nature New Zealand has a lot of very good playgrounds. :D  Every time we see a playground, we stop and play! :D That’s fun!

We walked through the public park. There are a few mud- and thermal pools.  Apart from we joined the view over the lake! :) On our way to the campground we stopped at the biggest 3D maze. Find the four corners and the right way out auf the maze. That was fun! :)

Fabios Birthday – Birthday Boy!!

We had chili con carne, beer and wine! We laughed and had a cool evening together! Thank you Sara for the great bounce ball! :)

Whakatane – Maori End of Year Tour – we are on TV!!! :D

Whakatane was our next stop on our way to the East Cape. 30 degree and is getting hotter and we didn’t know what to do next… Until this nice woman from the I Site gave us a tip to go to the festival, entry: Free!! Here we are!!  Four hours of reggae, hip hop and electric music, just amazing! :) On the 21^st of december  we were on national wide tv!! :D Sure only for a half second, BUT, we are on TV and that counts!!! :D

The last km to the East Cape

It is safe to say we stayed on the most beautiful DOC campground in the whole of New Zealand! For only 6 dollar per person, you got NO water, NO toilet, just nothing! :D we decided to stay there but we didn’t pay! :)

We woke up at 4:30 am. 10 minute drive to the ground of the lighthouse and another 750 steps!! The sunrise was at 5:37 am and it was worth it!!!

We were there, the first sunrise in the world! We started the day first!! :)

Tokomaru Bay – Relaxing in a Hostel

Relaxing two days in the coolest hostel! :) Beachview from the hostel and Sara had the nicest view ever from her tent site!! :) We had BBQ with all the people they stayed in the hostel and during this time we were 10! :D Just cool! During the day we spend our time at the beach or did nothing! :) that’s life! ;)

Gisborne

We arrived in Gisborne two days before Marleens birthday. Actually we planned to stay only one day in Gisborne, but we already celebrated Saras Birthay on the 7^th of december in New Plymouth and also Fabio’s on our way together, so we decided to stay till after Marleen´s birthday.

Marleen’s birthday started with porridge and a sparkling wine!! For afternoon we had banana cake and the next bottle of sparkling wine. Highlight of the day was “The Hobbit” in 3D. After the movie we went out for billiard and a few drinks. :)

Auf geht’s zum East Cape und Endstation Gisborne– Marleen, Fabio und Sara!

Sara hatte schnell entschieden, sich ein Zelt zu kaufen, da sie irgendwann sowieso braucht. Noch besser, denn sonst hätten wir jeden Abend zu 3. Im Auto schlafen müssen! Das wäre kuschelig geworden. Also, ab zum Warehouse und alles für unseren gemeinsamen Trip gekauft. Zelt, Schlafsack und Isomatte waren schnell gefunden. :)

Forgotten World Highway – Reisepassstempel wir kommen!

Unser erstes Highlight war der Forgotten World Highway. Die nächsten 150 Km keine Tankstelle und 20 Km Schotterstraße. Wir haben uns für diesen Highway entschieden, weil wir unbedingt diesen Stempel im unserem Reisepass haben wollten, denn Mitten im Nirgendwo gibt es dort eine eigenständige Republik namens „Whangamomona“! Zwei Dollar Spende und wir hatten ihn! Und wir haben den Highway überlebt, wer hätte das bei dem Namen gedacht! :D

Zwischenstopp in Taupo bei den Hot Water Pools durfte nicht fehlen. Gut, dass wir recht früh dort ankamen, denn Platz ist rar! :) Aber es hat sich gelohnt, von Heiß wie in der Badewanne bis angenehm warm, war alles dabei!

Ein riesen Park mit 25 verschiedenen Thermalen Pools. Von Devils Home, über Oyster Pool  und Sulphur Caves bis hin zum Devils Hole. Ein atemberaubendes Erlebnis und „frische“ Luft inklusive! :D

Spielplatz die 1.!

Neuseeland hat neben der wunderschönen Natur auch richtig gute Spielplätze. :D Immer wenn wir einen sehen, stoppen wir und spielen eine Runde! :D Das macht Spaß!

Rotorua

Wir haben eine kleine Runde durch den öffentlichen Park gemacht. Dort gab es einige Schlamm- und Thermal Pools.  Ansonsten haben wir nur den Blick auf den See genossen! :) Auf dem Weg zum Campingplatz haben wir noch einen Stopp am größten 3D Labyrinth gemacht. Vier Ecken suchen und am Ende wieder den weg nach draußen finden! Das hat wirklich Spaß gemacht! :)

Fabios Geburtstag – Birthday Boy!!

Es gab Chili con Carne, Bier und Wein!! Wir haben gelacht und den Abend schön verbracht! Danke, Sara, für den super Flummi! :)

Whakatane – Maori End of Year Tour – wir sind im FERNSEHEN!!! :D

Whakatane war der nächste Stopp auf unserem Weg zum East Cape.  30 Grad und es wird noch heißer und wir wussten nicht was wir machen sollen… Bis die Dame aus der I Site uns einen Tipp für ein Festival gegeben hat, Eintritt: Frei!! Also hin da!! Vier Stunden, Raggae, Hip Hop und elektronische Musik, einfach der Hammer!! :) Am 21.12. waren wir dann sogar im nationalen TV zu sehen!!! :D zwar nur für knappe 0,5 Sekunden, ABER, wir sind im FERNSEHEN und das zählt!! :D

Die letzten KM zum East Cape

Übernachtung auf dem schönsten DOC Campground, wir würden sagen, in ganz Neuseeland! Für nur 6 Dollar pro Person bekommst du KEIN Wasser, KEIN Klo, einfach NICHTS! :D Wir haben beschlossen, zu bleiben, aber nichts zu zahlen!

Um 4:30 Uhr sind wir aufgestanden.  10 Minuten bis zum Fuß des Leuchtturms und dann noch weitere 750 Stufen!! Der Sonnenaufgang war um 5:37 Uhr und es hat sich gelohnt!!!!

Wir waren dabei, der erste Sonnenaufgang der Welt!!!! Wir haben den Tag zuerst begonnen :)

Zwei Tage im coolsten Hostel chillen!! :) Strandblick vom Hostel und Sara hatte den schönsten Zeltplatz!!! :) BBQ mit dem ganzen Hostel und das waren 10 Leute! :D einfach cool! Tagsüber haben wir unsere Zeit am Strand verbracht oder haben nichts gemacht! :) Das ist ein Leben! ;)

Gisborne

Zwei Tage vor Marleens Geburtstag sind wir in Gisborne angekommen. Wir hatten eigentlich geplant einen Tag zu bleiben, aber da wir bereits Saras Geburtstag am 07.12. in New Plymouth gefeiert hatten und dann Fabios auf unserer Reise, haben wir beschlossen auch Marleens Geburtstag zusammen zu feiern! :) Gesagt getan! Wir haben bis zum 21. Im Hostel eingecheckt.

Marleen Geburtstag begann mit Porridge und Sekt.  Am Nachtmittag gab es einen Bananenkuchen und eine weitere Flasche Sekt. :) Ein neues Kleid war ihr Geschenk! :) Highlight des Tages war „Der Hobbit“ in 3D.  Danach sind wir noch in eine Bar zum Billiard spielen und ein paar Drinks! :)

Danke, Sara, für die super schöne und lustige Zeit mit Dir!! Wir werden Dich vermissen. Wir wünschen Dir eine schöne Weihnachtszeit und eine coole Zeit auf dem Festival. Wir würden uns so freuen, wenn unsere gemeinsame Reise auf der Südinsel weitergehen würde!! Meldest Du Dich nicht, tun wir es! ;)

Waitomo and New Plymouth - english version

After we saw the village of Hobbiton, we drove directly further to Waitomo. Our plan was to stay there for one night, but after the first night nobody asked for us, so we stayed one night longer without paying! :)

We already booked the Waitomo Caves on a website, 2 for 1., 260 Dollar instead of 520 Dollar – BARGAIN!! :)

Unfortunately there are no pictures, because it wasn´t allowed to take your own cam with you. But here is a short list, so you can picture it yourself:

• ·         A 3 hour tour through the caves under Waitomo
• ·         Wetsuit, rubber boots and a head torch
• ·         3 times abseiling in the dark, between 5 and 25 meter, once right through a waterfall
• ·         Crawling through small and contorted ways
• ·         Climbing a  rock
• ·         Adrenalin pure

As usual we weren´t the only germans in this hostel and so it came that we were fast in a conversation with Sebastian and Maren. There next destination, like ours, was New Plymouth. After a short consideration, we decided that we would smuggle them in the back of our car to New Plymouth! Our first smuggle trip!! EXCITEMENT!! :D

Actually we planned to stay three till four days, climb the Mount Taranaki and that´s all. But Marleen had back problems, too. So we decided to stay at least one week, at the end we stayed 14 days! :)

Fabios back won´t get better.. till now, he only lied in the back of the car while Marleen is driving. Unfortunately no doctor can help, only relaxation and patience. Marleen had to go to the chiropracticioner, one of her vertebra was not on the right spot (Short background: Since the bus trip from Sydney to Melbourne Marleen had pain in her back. After six weeks the pain didn´t go away by itself, so Marleen decided to see the doctor. Result: Chiropracticer). She had to go more than once, but finally the pain is gone!! She doesn´t know, how life without pain was?!

Our activities around New Plymouth

Mount Taranaki: The reason why we came to New Plymouth. Because of Fabios back, Marleen climbed the Mount Taranaki with Sebastian, Maren and Lukas. It was worth it. Just amazing!!

Up the mountain and down the mountain. Once cold, once warm, rain, mist, sun and a lot of fun.

We planned to go for a walk for 2 till 3 hours, because the weather forecast said it was going to rain for the day.. at the and we walked for 6,5 hours. :D

Small mount by the port: Only 15 minutes and you had the most amazing view over New Plymouth and Mount Taranaki.

Costal Walk: New Plymouth has a 7 km costal walk. We did it in three hops! :)

Baking bread: Because of Lukas we discovered baking bread (check out the recipe: http://chefkoch.de: Saftiges Vollkornbrot ohne Kneten!)

Banana Cake: To many bananas, flavour, sugar and baking soda from the free food shelf…  baked a delicious banana cake! :) Best with nutella and peanut butter! :D a dream!!

Fabio the chef: most of the people lived in the hostel, because they worked in the neighbourhood. Fabio cooked sometimes. For example chili con carne for the three boys Aaron, Jake and David. He didn´t get too little money for it! :) Or Fabio made some pizza for Jakes birthday. Pizza for 15 people, that was delicious.

14 days in one hostel, during the 14 days almost the same people, at the end we were like a small family!! Saying goodbye wasn’t the best feeling, but we had to go. There is a german saying: Leave when it´s best. Unfortunately.. maybe we see us again..

PS: Thanks to Anna and Connor (probably they won´t read this) for all the season of Breaking Bad!! If someone don’t know this or haven’t seen this, start to watch it, otherwise you will miss something, just a burner!! :D

Last but not least our new travel friend and friend from the US: SARA!! After a short conversation in the kitchen Sara decided to quit her new job in the hostel and join us! :D

Let´s go – East Cape here we come – the place where the sunrays hit the earth first :)
